Imports Associate
Summary: This position is responsible to support the Import freight team with all import logistics related tasks including: ocean freight requests from carriers, enter the rate, analyze and do rate comparison. Process freight invoices and dispute any discrepancy until resolved. Manage the carrier's statements and keep the account to good standing. Assist with any booking issues and change of destination inquiries from product team and overseas supplies/vendors.
Work hours: Monday to Friday 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM and alternate Saturdays.
Compensation: This hourly, non-exempt position pays from $24 to $27 per hour, with overtime compensated at 1.5 times the base rate. New hires usually earn between $46,760 and $59,920 annually, or more, depending on experience, overtime hours, and bonuses.
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to complete the following essential duties and responsibilities:
- Rate requests and update all shipping files
- Troubleshooting of all freight /OBL related issue
- Approve and process AP freight invoices
- Maintain AP statements with shipping lines and freight forwarders
- Assist with booking problems and change of destination
- Assist Senior Associates and Managements with other assigned duties
Additionally the candidate must meet the following Education and/or Experience requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Ability to communicate with shipping lines, US Customs, Port's Terminals, Trucking Companies and Freight Forwarders
- Able to analyze data related to costs and offer better options
- Knowledge or exposure of dealing with carrier contracts, as well as handling all surcharges such as bunker, low sulfur, and more
- Clear communication with the ability to use positive language
- Attentiveness and able to work under pressure
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks at once
- Goal oriented focus
- Good mathematical skills; ability to do calculations quickly
- Demonstrated experience with the use of PCs, along with the ability to navigate in a multi-window based environment.
- Proficient in MS Outlook, Word and advance in Excel (preferred)
- Start time Monday to Friday is either 8 am or 9 am, ending at 5 pm or 6 pm, with every other Saturday for a half-day.
